He was the inaugural Chairman of the Keep Katikati Beautiful Committee, and continued his activities with the group until shortly before his death. He was also an active member of the Katikati Lions Club for 16 years, instigating the Lone Diners Club for those living alone amongst other initiatives. His services to the Anglican Church as a lay minister for 45 years were recognised with a license and badge as Lay Officiant Emeritus.
