DescriptionKeep Katikati Beautiful was set up as part of the nationwide Beautiful Towns Program, which pits small towns against each other in friendly competition to see who will win the award for "Most Beautiful Town". According to the first annual report in 1989, "It took a mis-spelt press report to motivate the Katikati Community Board into the program. Kihikihi had won the award in their category of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful program and the news media reported that Katikati had won." It must have inspired the Board, under the chairmanship of Dave Hume, to start a committee. It was formed on March 9th, 1989 at the Talisman Tavern. Keep Katikati Beautiful went on to secure 3 outright wins as "Most Beautiful Town" along with a number of category wins and runner up awards.
In a special meeting held on January 11th 2011, the committee made the decision to go into recess and therefore pull out of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Program.WebsiteKeep New Zealand Beautiful
