DescriptionKatikati Drama Club in the 1960s and 70s was an active and successful club which produced a number of well-reviewed plays and pantomimes which were performed at Katikati Memorial Hall. Fortunately, these performances were well documented and recorded and kept in a series of scrapbooks and photo albums which were donated to the Western Bay Community Archives by Ann Allen who enjoyed some stardom as part of the club.
"Castle in the Air" is a Scottish comedy written by Alan Melville. It features a Scottish Laird who finds himself so financially embarrassed that he must take paying guests into his castle to make ends meet. Hilarity ensues as the audience meet the various staff and guests who cause or fall victim to strange and unusual events. It was produced locally by Elizabeth Bradley and performed on the 18th and 20th November 1965. The cast members were: Nan Smith as "Boss" Trent, Kit Crawford as Menzies, Jim Jordan as the Earl of Locharne, Peter Gautry as Arthur Phillips and Katikati's only American resident Esther Goodwin as Mrs. Dunne, an American of course! The setting is the Library at Locharne Castle in Aberdeenshire in the Autumn.Date1965
