DescriptionThis Museum exhibition opened in June 2019 in partnership with Katikati Open Air Art. Its major sponsor was the Department of Conservation, and the theme was not just a celebration of the industry and the tree itself, but the battle against Kauri die back disease which has blighted these magnificent trees since the 1970s.
Katikati is the furthest south these trees will grow to a size which would be regarded as commercially viable enough to log and turn into timber for construction. The remains of Kauri logging remain in the Kaimai Ranges and relics from the past were exhibited at the Museum alongside educational tools and written accounts of life in the logging camps.Website linkKauri dieback
