BiographyArthur accompanied his father Samuel and his two brothers Sidney and Harry to New Zealand in 1858. Upon arrival, Samuel successfully petitioned for land and received 246 acres at Mangawai on the east coast. Samuel was never able to enjoy this land, as he died before he could occupy it, in 1858. The brothers took it up and when Arthur left to become a full time soldier in 1864, his younger brother Harry continued living on the property.
