DescriptionA service car almost bogged down to its axles on the Katikati highway in the 1920's. The driver, probably Les Hume before he lost his left arm below the elbow in a shot gun accident, is possibly waiting for a team of horses to come to his rescue. In winter or after heavy rain the section of highway between Tauranga and Katikati often used to take 5-6 hours to travel by service car because of the road conditions.
