DescriptionKatikati Drama Club in the 1960s and 70s was an active and successful club which produced a number of well-reviewed plays and pantomimes which were performed at Katikati Memorial Hall. Fortunately, these performances were well documented and recorded and kept in a series of scrapbooks and photo albums which were donated to the Western Bay Community Archives by Ann Allen who enjoyed some stardom as part of the club.
"The Island" was a double billing with "The Public Eye" and was written by Anthony Booth and produced by Diana Hayson. It was performed at the Katikati Memorial Hall on the 24th and 26th April 1965. The starring roles were Peter Gautrey as Mario, Stan Lucas as Vincenzo, June Carlton as Celina, Nerina Daly as Carla, David Gray as Guian, Lyn Cassidy as Pina and Ivan Lepper as Roberto. The scene was the interior of a cottage owned by Vincenzo on the island of Iscalaria, south of Corsica.
"The Public Eye" was written by Peter Shaffer and produced by Christopher Seward. It starred Christopher Seward as Julian Christoforou, Roger Smith as Charles Sidley a chartered accountant and Jocelyn Harray as Charles' wife Belinda Sidley. The action takes place in Charles Sidley's offices in Bloomsbury on a summer morning.
