DescriptionKatikati Drama Club in the 1960s and 70s was an active and successful club which produced a number of well-reviewed plays and pantomimes which were performed at Katikati Memorial Hall. Fortunately, these performances were well documented and recorded and kept in a series of scrapbooks and photo albums which were donated to the Western Bay Community Archives by Ann Allen who enjoyed some stardom as part of the club.
This was a play written by William Douglas Home and locally produced by Diana Hayson. The local stars were:
Chris Sheward as Brian the Dean's elder son, June Carlton as Jane the girl who is in love with Brian, Doris Abbott as Jean Foster the Dean's wife, Roger Smith as Albert Foster the Anglican Dean, Mike Mulqueen as Alan the Dean's younger son and Marion Jago as Veronica the Roman Catholic girl in love with Alan. The action takes place in the sitting room of the Deanery of an unnamed English cathedral town.
The play was performed in the Katikati Memorial Hall on the 28th and 30th April 1966. It had a positive review in the Bay of Plenty Times of Friday April 29th saying that it was "certainly well worth seeing and the Katikati Drama Club have worked hard to provide this enjoyable entertainment."Date1966
