DescriptionInformation about the club is sparse during these earlier years, but it seems that the Katikati Drama Club was active shortly after the war. It is not known where the plays were performed, as the Memorial Hall was not completed until 1954.
Lilac Time (originally known as Das Dreimäderlhaus) was composed by Franz Schubert and is set in the Vienna that stimulated Schubert’s brief but rich music life with its story based on his passionate and unrequited love for Lili Veit, the youngest of three sisters. For his beloved, Schubert writes a song, “I want to carve your name on every tree.” However, being too shy to sing of his feelings, he persuades his best friend, Franz Schober to sing and Lili falls in love with the wrong Franz. For Franz Schubert there can be no other love and the operetta ends with his decision to devote the rest of his life to his music.
