DescriptionKatikati Drama Club in the 1960s and 70s was an active and successful club which produced a number of well-reviewed plays and pantomimes which were performed at Katikati Memorial Hall. Fortunately, these performances were well documented and recorded and kept in a series of scrapbooks and photo albums which were donated to the Western Bay Community Archives by Ann Allen who enjoyed some stardom as part of the club.
One of the Katikati Drama Club's early plays, "Doctor in the House" was their third major production and was a play in three acts by Ted Willis from the novel by Richard Gordon. It was produced by Betty Coates and performed at the Katikati Memorial Hall on the 27th and 29th June 1963. It starred Chris Sheward as Tony Grimsdyke, Bob Gribble as Simon Sparrow and Aubin Wenzlick as John Evans - these three characters were all medical students. June Carlton played Vera, a lady-in-waiting, Stan Lucas was Bromley the hospital porter, Roger Smith was the surgeon Sir Lancelot Spratt, Elizabeth Bradley was Miss Riggie Winslow the nurse, Diana Hayson was The Matron and Nan Smith, another nurse called Janet.
