Collection Details
DescriptionLindsay Bent was born in Auckland in 1899, the fourth child of Robert Allan and Mary Bent of Waiuku, who settled there in 1875. Whilst he was at King's College in Auckland, his parents moved to Puketurua, west of Putatruru in the Waikato. On April 22nd he married Alma Barnett (Ngati Raukawa) at Matamata. She was the daughter of William Herbert and Mere Barnett. Alma's marae is Pikitu, her waka are Tainui and Takitimu, her awa is the Waihou and her maunga is Maungatautere. Lindsay and Mere had five children together, Muriel, Marty, Dorothy, Lilian and George, and farmed at Putaruru until 1951 when they purchased a farm at Belk Road in Tauriko. They farmed there until 1960 when their son George bought that farm off them, and moved to Ōmokoroa where they bought a home at 4 Harbour View Road. They loved the quiet, peaceful lifestyle of Ōmokoroa of those days until Alma's health began to fail which forced a move to Tauranga in 1970 to be closer to the hospital. Alma passed away in 1971 and Lindsay passed away in Tauranga in 1985.
