He and his wife Coral married at the Te Puke Anglican Church in 1952 and together they raised a family of six children. Tup served with the brigade for 45 years, until his retirement from the service 1995. Tup started as the station messenger and eventually went on to serve as Deputy Fire Chief for 18 years and as Chief Fire Officer from 1984 until his retirement.
