Aongatete Country Women's Institute
Collection Details
DescriptionOn December 14th 1943 and 1:30pm, the President of the Tauranga District Federation of Women's Institutes, Mrs. McNaughton, gave a talk on the movement to a small group of Aongetete women at the Aongatete Hall. It was decided at the end of this talk that a branch should be formed, and the six women present promptly formed a committee and officers were appointed. Mrs. K Noble was president, Secretary was Mrs. Crawford, Mrs Hume was in charge of stalls, and Mrs. Sepper to help with competitions.
So began 76 years of work and social connection for the women of Aongatete. Trips, friendships, support, parties, monthly speakers and fund raising enabled these women to contribute hugely to the community in which they lived while enjoying the close friendships that came with membership of the branch.
The club finally went into recess on February 5th, 2019 as numbers had dwindled to just 3 ladies.
