The guides list and describe properties in great detail providing researchers snapshot descriptions that prove very useful for insertion into family and district histories. The index was compiled because most books are missing and the index format provides a platform to record books as they are located at libraries or private collections. Users are encouraged to amend the document and circulate at will. Companion documents to the guides are Sale Plans - these are very detailed drawings for Crown lands that also describe the properties and locale in useful terms for researchers. ArchivesNZ has full sets of Sale Plans in mint condition and scans can be purchased at very reasonable rates. Plans can be tracked down on the ArchivesNZ Gateway site with perseverance. As an aid, searchable spreadsheets are presently being worked upon that will allow a locality query to find Sale Plans. To view typical sale plans, visit the DigitalNZ website and type in "Sale Plan".
Another resource associated with CLGs are 'pamphlets' which are comprehensive descriptions for land sales that may be many pages in length, often incorporating sketches or photographs. Always attached is either a full sale plan, or a cut-down version that relates specifically to the property in question - nonrelated portions having been cut off.
