TitleBakehouse - KatikatiDescriptionThe old bakehouse was built near the Uretara River. The Katikati Boat Club Building would be just off to the right, across the right-of-way in the foreground. It was the oldest of the 3 bakehouses that have been built in Katikati. It was built in the first few years of the settlement by Noble Johnston Senior close to the store and butcher's shop, which he also built and owned. The old bakehouse was demolished in 1976 because it had been damaged by fire several times and was declared unsafe. The bricks were taken by truck to the Tauranga District Museum where they were used on its site. This bakehouse was the last of the buildings that was once the heart of early Katikati.
