DescriptionThe school was built by the settlers themselves in 1921 and the school opened in 1922. The building was only a shell for several years before it was lined.
Life was hard in those days and many settlers could not make a go of it and had to walk off their land - Mangatoi was no exception, and by 1938 there were not enough children to keep the school operational, so it closed and thereafter became a popular place for the fortnightly dances held in the area. In 1953, it was purchased by Dudley Vercoe and turned into a woolshed.Date taken1929PhotographerUnknownKeywordsMangatoi
