There is no defined boundary for Aongatete, although the river from which the area takes its name sits at its heart. The Aongatete River is a 12 km river which begins its journey in the same place as almost all the rivers in this part of the district - the Kaimai Ranges. It makes its way down to the coast to the south of Katikati. Some would say that Katikati Bird Gardens and the Fort Leza restaurant sit within the boundaries of Aongatete, others say that the northern boundary would be the river itself, although there seems to be a consensus that the southern boundary is the Wainui River.
